Many educational institutions publish periodicals in the form of newspapers or magazines, which began with posters, war sheets, zippers or wall newspapers from past years. The use of publishing editors allowed us to automate the process of publishing a newspaper and to qualitatively improve the final result, so there is a renewed interest in this type of creativity.

The newspaper helps all participants in the educational process to better understand each other, resolve conflicts, organize a discussion or debate. Published materials on the violation of the rights of students or teachers, the promotion of these rights make the publication “human rights”, and if the release covers the entire process of academic life - news from lessons or lectures, notes on extra-curricular activities, stories about sports, congratulations, announcements of upcoming events, recognition , then the newspaper becomes “about everything.” Corresponding headings on the rating of groups, the quality of education can increase the motivation to study, introduce the stages of competition into the educational work of the educational institution (the best student or student, the best class or the best group, the most creative teacher, etc.), career guidance topics help you choose future or even more love the already chosen profession. The periodical serves as a kind of chronicle of an educational institution - turning over the pages of newspapers, you can trace educational everyday life and creative activity, recall the exciting events of that time.

Initially, probably, any educational publishing house began with Microsoft Word, and then, faced with difficulties, switched to more professional editors for typesetting newspapers and magazines. With the technology of newspaper publishing in the Microsoft Publisher application, I want to introduce everyone who is interested in the topic of the newspaper of an educational institution.

This software product allows any layman to create a completely acceptable layout of not only the most necessary types of products, but also newspapers. Modern typesetting programs largely ignore the intricacies of prepress preparation of documents and subsequent technological processes. All that is required of the user is the ability to understand basic tools, basic concepts of working with fonts, color management, design, etc. Learning all this in a professional publishing system is quite difficult. It is wiser to start studying publishing technologies with a less functional, but more understandable program. Microsoft Publisher, a well-established entry-level desktop publishing system, is lightweight, convenient, and high-quality for this role.

Before you start working in the Microsoft Publisher editor, you need to identify in advance some of the key points needed when publishing a newspaper:

  • The format of the newspaper.
  • It is more solid if the newspaper is in A3 format, however, if you do not have a printer with such a format, then you can print in A4 format, but the publication will lose in design.
  • Title
  • The name of the newspaper is one of the most important tasks, on which not only the subject matter of the future publication depends, but also its fate. The name carries a lot of semantic load, it should be easy to pronounce, express the concept of publication and be convenient for use in speech.
In our school, we ourselves could not cope with the situation and, therefore, announced a competition for the best name of the newspaper. The result was pleasant - against the background of all sorts of “cultures” and “knowledge” there were several very good names, from which it was chosen - “Everyone is Necessarily Talented” or in abbreviated form “CAT”. This name reflects the specifics of our educational institution, characterizes the students who study with us - people who are creative, sincere, talented, kind and cheerful.

  • The next step will be to develop a logo and slogan. This is not necessary, but gives solidity to the publication (like the present!), Allows you to express the concept of the entire newspaper using a picture and a short phrase.

When the main stages of organizing the publication are done, we move on to working on a computer or creating a newspaper layout.

  1. Open Microsoft Publisher, on the left, in the “New publication” docker, select “Blank publications” and click on the “Blank sheet” on the right in the layout window (or in the “New” docker, select “Blank publication” again). A blank sheet opened. If you need to change the page orientation and format (by default, the page is in portrait orientation in A4 format), then everything is simple, as in Word - “File” - “Page Settings”.
  2. Set fields. All fields in a clean publication are 2.5 cm in size. The newspaper must have headers and footers, so leave the upper and lower fields as they are, make the external field 2 cm, and the internal field 1.5 cm to compensate for the visual effect. If you leave a field of 2.5 cm, then at the turn it will be 2.5 + 2.5 = 5 cm, which will cause the effect of a disproportionately large gap between the strips, the effect of visual “scattering” of the strips, their desire to escape beyond the boundaries of the newspaper.

Call the option “Location” - “Guide markings”. Check the box “Two-page master” and the field names “Left-Right” changes to the necessary “External-internal”. Assign the required field sizes

There are always columns in the newspaper, here are the columns. “Guide grids” make it possible to assign them here. For an A4 sheet, select 5 columns. In the “Line Guides” tab, leave the number 1. In the preview window, the result is visible. OK.

  • Now you need to “Create text blocks by columns (columns)” using the “Label” tool on the left of the toolbar.
  • Add pages: “Insert” - “Page”. Get the page insert dialog. Put “The number of new pages” - 3, “After the current”. In the lower options, check the box “Copy all objects on the page”, the number 1 becomes active, i.e. all objects are copied from page number one.
  • There was a shift of the blocks relative to the Guides designating the columns (columns ”due to the mirroring of the pages. You can move the blocks, highlighting them all with the Shift key, using the arrow keys or the cursor. You can move manually for any point from the number of selected paths, only you can’t tackle the selection markers Blocks can be moved when the cursor looks like a four-pointed arrow
  • In order to make the newspaper’s layout more visible, go to the “View” - “Two Pages” command, then the inside pages of the newspaper will be visible with a full spread.

The basis of the newspaper is ready, you need to make the design of the footers. In the newspaper, the footers are different for the left and right pages.

  • Select the command “View” - “Headers and Footers”.
  • Consider Headers

    • On the footer should be the name of the newspaper, year of publication, number, subtitle: “Newspaper for all”, for example. Distribute: the name of the newspaper and its number are on the Left Footer, the subtitle and year of publication is on the Right. If the heading occupies a whole strip, its name is most conveniently also located in the footer.
    • Draw two lines - for both Left and Right Headers, select both while holding the Shift key, open the context menu by right-clicking and select the “Group” command. Choose the shape and thickness of the lines through the command of the context menu “Object Format” or on the line of the text menu “Format” - “Object” to your liking. If the lines are too close to the text blocks, you need to raise them: select them manually (when the cursor becomes a double intersecting arrow) or use the arrow keys on the keyboard to shift up to the required value.
    • Now go to the inscriptions. If there is not enough space for them on the footer, then you can expand the size of the footer field by moving the middle footer markers up.
Assign a font style, and it is desirable to write the heading in one font, and the number in another, the subtitle in third, the year number and serial number of the newspaper should be the same in size and spelling.
    • If you need to insert a rubric, then select the rectangle tool, on the left of the toolbar, draw a rectangle of approximately the length known to us above the Footer. And call the option Pouring menu command “Format” “Auto” in order to fill the rectangle with a suitable color. When the result suits, grab the rectangle with the mouse and put it in its rightful place - in the center of the strip in a row with the Footer. If the rectangle does not harmonize with the overall design, you can change the shape to a Rounded Rectangle. Select the Rectangle and call the menu command “Location”, the option “Change autofigure” - “Basic shapes” select the Rectangle with rounded corners. The yellow rhombus at the left corner of the figure, which is viewed in the figure, serves to change the radius of curvature of the angle. Manipulating the movements of this rhombus, select an acceptable rounding of all angles (they change at the same time). As soon as the Rectangle is in the place where it will always be, the arrangement of the text in the Footer will change. By default, in Publisher, placing any object in a text line or paragraph immediately calls “Wrap around text” in the “Round” mode. It is necessary to call the option “Auto format from the “Layout” menu and assign the option “None”. You should change the order of objects: select the rectangle, call the context menu and select the option “Order” - “Back to the background” (the same can be done through the menu command “Location” - “Order” - “Back to the background.” Then the text of the number newspapers will return to the place.
    • Copy this Rectangle into the Clipboard and Paste it from the Clipboard.
    • Take the inserted Rectangle with the mouse, place it on the second Header, on the Right page. There, insert it into the Footer in the same way as on the Left page.

    Turn to the Footers.

    • It is advisable to draw some line - maybe less significant than at the top, thus maintaining the overall style of design.
    • Having drawn two Lines and having assigned them a shape and sizes, place them on a strip. After that, turn on the Footer and draw the Pages (stripes) numbers by clicking the Page Numbers button on the Header and Footer buttons, and the Number in the form of the # sign appears where it should appear by default. By default, this is on the left edge of the Footer. Reassign Alignment - do Alignment Center. But in the second Page Footer, the program will not let you install. The page number from the Header Panel is assigned only once. The second appointment will have to be done using the “Insert” menu. There select the option “Page Numbers and assign a number in the dialogue.

    • First, set the font size to 18. Second, copy the Rounded Rectangle into the Clipboard and Paste it into the Footer. Using the mouse, we adjust its size to the size of the Page Number and impose it on this Number.
    • The number naturally disappears under the black Oval. The oval is highlighted, so in the “Location” menu, submenu “Order”, select the command “Back to the background”. After that, select the invisible Page Number with the cursor and open the “Font Color” menu on the Control Panel. There, assign the Font Color - “White”. Do the same with the Page Number on the second page of the Master Page ..
    1. Our next task is to arrange the headline so that it is striking. The title should be visible immediately and as best as possible.

On this page, collintilli can interfere, so you need to delete them (you can’t completely assign them: the newspaper may not be 4 pages (pages), but 16, 32, 48 and even more. Therefore, the header and footer is assigned immediately to all pages).

        • Draw a large long (in the width of the strip) Rectangle and assign it a white outline and a white fill color. With this Rectangle, close the entire header.
        • Now copy the Rectangle into the Buffer and paste it again, covering the entire Footer.
        • First of all, let's choose a substrate corresponding to our tastes or preferences, a lining for the heading - draw a rectangle, paint it gray, assign a line, round the corners ..
        • Then they assigned the Text Block to the substrate field and wrote the headline of the newspaper in a suitable font.
        • Paste in the gray box for the logo header.
    2. To make sure that the page is ready and see how it all looks when there are no distracting lines, you can enable the “Preview” option.
    3. The layout of the newspaper is ready, now, based on it, you can typeset the newspaper.

    4. Editor’s word or editorial - should be in almost every newspaper. An editorial is usually located on the front page, on the left - this is the very first material of the newspaper. She, as a rule, either has a catchy headline, or, conversely, is completely neutral. For her, she always uses a strict business style - from the title to the text font. It is tinted (frame / or block / often neutral gray), the article or note is taken into the frame.
    5. Newspaper headlines often have to be moved, pushed, broken, squeezed. This affects the layout of the text. To prevent this from happening, it is better to immediately write the title in a separate Text Block.
    6. In the layout of the article, various frames are used in which the text is taken.
    7. The text in the block is aligned to the edge or width, and also so that it matches the alignment of adjacent materials. In the “Location” command menu, select the “Align / Distribute” option and specify the alignment that is necessary.
    8. Inserting a picture is very simple in two ways: from the "Insert" menu or on the Toolbar using the "Picture" button.
    9. To establish a connection between Text Blocks, so that text flows from one block to another, you can select the “Create a link with an inscription” button on the Control Panel. In this case, the first block must be allocated. Now, with the cursor that looks like a circle with something liquid, click within the next block. And the connection will be established.
    10. If a plate sign with a green arrow is visible above the selected Text Block, then this block is associated with some earlier one. A die with an arrow is a hyperlink, because after a click this block ceases to be selected, and the one from which the test flows into this block is highlighted.
    11. For a newspaper, an output data area is required, which occupies a height of up to 5 centimeters and a width in the width of the strip. The output contains the name of the editor-in-chief, editorial staff, license number, founders, sponsors, other persons who are somehow related to the newspaper. Then - circulation, editorial office, telephones, faxes, possibly an email address. And finally, the address and contact numbers of the printing house where the print run was printed.
    12. All other actions in Publisher will be identical in one way or another to those described above. The quality of layout does not depend on the program, but on our taste and skill. All in our hands.

      15.1 Theoretical information

To place text in newspaper articles, magazines, brochures used speakers. In documents Microsoft Word placement of text in columns can be done in one of the ways: using tabs, using tables, creating newspaper speakers. In the newspaper columns the text moves from the bottom of one column to the top of another, as in newspapers and magazines.

AT Microsoft Word can create newspaper speakers either using the Columns icon on the Standard toolbar or using the Columns dialog box, called by the "Format / Columns." command.

For quick creation speakers equal width in the whole document or its part, select all the text or part of the text and press the button Speakers on the Standard toolbar. In this case, specify the required number of columns with the mouse.

The Columns dialog window, called by the "Format / Columns." Command, provides the following options

      • creating columns of different widths,
      • an indication of the exact width of each column and the interval between it and the next column,
      • forced preservation of the same column width,
      • Add vertical dividing lines between columns.

When dividing the selected text into columns, the editor will insert lines to break the sections before and after the selected text. Thus, the selected text is placed in a separate section of the document, in which newspaper columns are created. If you do not select text in advance when creating columns, the entire text will be split into columns. But if the document is divided into sections, then the columns will not be applied to the entire text, but only to the text of the current section.

To complete this lab, you need to become familiar with the possibilities. Microsoft Word по созданию документов, в которых текст размещается в колонках, рассмотренные в рекомендованных источниках информации.
