Many of us complain of memory impairment, especially due to increasing age. There are many techniques that help improve memory. In Islamic practice, there are also recommendations in this area. We offer readers the main ones.
The first way to improve memory is by reading.
To improve your memory, be careful and repeat what you want to remember. Memory as muscles needs training, and the constant memorization of any texts strengthens a person’s memory and actively affects his dynamics, helps to keep his memory in good shape. In this regard, it is highly recommended to read the Qur'an, for the first command of the Lord and the first ayah sent to the Prophet Muhammad было was: “Read!” Reading the Qur'an, memorizing it, and further reading the memorized verses in prayer will have a very beneficial effect on our ability to memorize.
The second way to improve memory is not to sin!
Islamic literature says that caring and sadness due to worldliness, eating sour apples, reading inscriptions on gravestones, frequent sexual intercourse worsen memory ... But especially among the reasons that worsen memory, theologians emphasize the commission of sins. Imam al-Shafi'i was famous not only for his piety and knowledge, but also for his perfect memory. His memory was so good that on the way to the market he had to plug his ears so as not to remember other people's conversations, not to clog his memory useless. To learn a lesson, it was enough for him to read something only once. And once he could not remember what he read the first time. He complained to his teacher Wakiu. He told Imam al-Shafi'ah that, most likely, the reason for his memory impairment was his sin. After this, the imam of al-Shafi'i pondered and began to remember what sin he could commit. And then I remembered that I had recently seen part of the foot of an outside woman. He immediately repented, and his memory again became the same.
A third way to improve memory is tahajud namaz and dua.
Perform night prayers (tahajud) - according to scientists, this greatly enhances memory. Here we should mention one recommendation from the Prophet Muhammad, which gives a 100% result.
In a hadith from Abdullah ibn Abbas ﺮﻀﻲﷲﻋﻨﻪ it is reported that once the companion Ali ﺮﻀﻲﷲﻋﻨﻪ complained to the Messenger of God ﷺ about the deterioration of his memory, the difficulties that arose in memorizing the Koran. And then the Prophet ﷺ told him:
“When Friday night comes, if you can, get up in the last, third part, as this is the time to receive the answer to the prayer and the time to which grace is witnessed. My brother the prophet Yakub ﻋﻟﻳﻪﺍﻠﺳﻼﻡ said to his children: “I will later ask you for forgiveness of sins from Allah,” he had in mind the Friday night. If you can’t do this, then get up at least in the middle of the night, and if you still can’t, then at the beginning of Friday night and perform the four-part prayer. In the first rak'ah after the surah al-Fatiha, read the surah Yasin, in the second the surah al-Duhan, in the third surah al-Sajdah, and in the fourth, Tabaraka. When you finish reading tashahhud, praise the Almighty and read the salavat on Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and the rest of the prophets. Then ask for forgiveness of sins to all Muslims and Muslim women, as well as brothers in faith who have left us. At the end, read this dua:
"Allahumma badi’s ssamavati val arḓi ҙu-l-stung val-ikrami val ‘zzati llyat la turuam. Asaluka I Allahu, i'm raẍmanu bijalyalika wa nuri importanthika an tulzima ḱalbi ẍifӟa kitabika kama ‘allamtani. Varzuni en atluvahu ‘ala nnaẍvi llyagi yurḓik‘ anni. Allahumma badi’s ssamavati val arḓi ҙul-zhali альal-ikrami -al-izzzati llyat la turamu. Asalyuka I am Allah, I am Rāmanu bizhalyalika wa nuri vazhika an tunavvira bikitabika baĉari wa an tuҭliḱa bihi lisani. Wa en tufarrizha bihi ‘en ḱalbi. Va an tashraẍa bihi ĉadri. “Oh Father Hassan, you repeat this three, five or seven Fridays - and by the will of Allah you will receive an answer.” I swear to those who sent me with true religion, this dua has not failed a single mumine ever. ”
Abdullah ibn Abbas ﺮﻀﻲﷲﻋﻨﻪ said: “Five or seven nights have not passed before Ali-Ashab ﺮﻀﻲﷲﻋﻨﻪ again came to the Prophet ﷺ and said:
- O Messenger of Allah, before I could not remember more than the four verses of the Qur'an, even when I memorized them, they were gone. And now I learn 40 verses a day. When I read to myself, I feel that a divine book is in front of my eyes. Earlier, when I heard a speech, a hadith and wanted to return to it, then it was lost from memory, and now I listen to the hadith, and when I tell myself, I remember everything without losing even one letter.
To this, the Prophet ﷺ said: "I swear by the Creator of the Kaaba, you are a mumin, O father of Hassan!" ”
